  • why.

so.. people ask why it happens. here's two reasons why i think it happens:

    1. they like guns.
    2. they are suicidal.

that's pretty much all it takes. no? they could have other reasons with those two.. but i think those are the minimum.

they probably like shooting. they buy guns.. and where can you shoot in america? shooting ranges. so they probably go there and shoot the guns they bought.

now, the only problem is... they hate their life. they dont want to live anymore.

they probably first think about just killing themself. (which i believe is a thought majority of the population thinks about now and then.)

but.. maybe when they looked at their gun.. they thought.. i like shooting guns, so before i kill myself, i could shoot other PEOPLE. i wont have to face the consequences since i'll be dead.

so.. ur thinking.. where's the empathy?

oddly enough.. if they hate their life.. they probably think they're doing these other people a favor.

considering the locations they shot (described by the news), it definitely seems like they wanted them out of their "misery" fast as well.

    mmm.. there's one more problem.

these other people never had a chance to have their say.

it's generally a big problem.. people applying their "standards" to other people..
makes for a lot of the problems in society. disagreements, disappointments, war.. etc.

anyway. it wasnt fair for these people. they might have said.. my life isnt miserable. we'd never know.

this problem of applying standards on others probably wont be fixed in my life time.
but this mix of liking shooting and.. being suicidal..

i was thinking there's one fair way.

u make the gun spree/suicidal program.

u can only apply if you like to shoot guns.. and you want to die.

then, they can be put in their own space.. and shoot all they want.. and everyone will shoot and die happy.

it's what's good for all of them.. right?

    die happy.

  • we don't even report shootings in america anymore. it just seems too common these days. sigh. so sad.

  • jeeeez christina, you talking like you can reason with these maniacs. you can't go to these psycho freaks and ask them, well why can't you just kill yourself and not others who may actually want to live? Things like wars and terrorist conflicts take place at a totally different level, a level on which you can actually rationalize about, unless you want to believe that violence in any form is the same thing.

and in case you think that you can't rationalize about wars, well...lots of people think that when your country or culture is in danger of being wiped out or at least debilitated to a significant degree, violence is the sort of necessary evil you have to rationally come to accept and carry out.

  • totally irrelevant note: i just downloaded and watched ZODIAC. didya see it? frikken awesome. based on true story, just the way i like it. good acting, damn good story, damn good screenplay. been downloading torrent files like a freaking junkie. i had no idea it was this easy to get whatever shit you want to watch.

  • @jungwyou -

my solution at the bottom was not a serious solution.. AND, i didnt say shooters and wars were at the same level. i was saying.. people trying to force their standards on others was the same. just like why a country would be wiped out or taken over (forcing their standards on them)

shooters may think since their life sucks, so do these others, and just think they're not doing anything wrong. if another student in that lecture hall had a gun, i'm sure he would have taken it out and shot the shooter too. which would be justified.

i didnt watch zodiac. i did want to watch it, but i heard some mixed reviews as well. send it over.

  • @jungwyou? what the hell yo, that is gay, heh heh heh.

What i'm saying is that you saying "shooters may think" doesn't make sense if you consider "thinking" to be some sort of rationalizing. If by thinking you mean any random chemical reaction you happen to experience as a thought in your head, then yeah, these psychos were thinking that life sucks for me and you while going on their rampage. Which doesn't lead to any sort of rational opinion whatsoever by an observer, which in this case you seem to want to do.

Regarding Zodiac: i can't just send over a 700 meg file man. Just go to piratebay.org and search zodiac. The site is warez heaven. (remember that word? hahahahah)

  • Lemme see here if i can put this in a better way: you want to know, and you think it is possible for us to have society configured with different cultural settings (in your case, without people forcing their standards on each other as much as it is being done now) so that freak accidents like the school shootings don't happen as much as they are happening now.

So in other words, if people were forcing their values on each other less, and created an environment of this reduced forcing of values, would we have less mass shootings by deranged maniacs?

I highly doubt it. Those two things -- forcing of values and insane shooting rampages -- just do not connect. That's what I think is the honest truth.

  • @jungwyou -

personally.. i dont consider these people a lot different than the typical suicidal person. it just happens they like violence. u make it seem like these psychos dont think. but surely, they have their own way of thinking. and whatever thinking they did, it took the lives of other people. to me, thats applying or should i say effecting other people with your thinking.

    u kno what im saying?

  • But why would you complain that the victims never "had their say" when you are dealing with people who are beside themselves? If some patient at a mental hospital forgot to take his meds and went around with a gun and started shooting people at random, are you gonna sit there and try to make sense out of it?

Oh yeah, that's exactly what happened with this recent guy. He was a totally sane, great student, "revered" by classmates and teachers, until he decided not to take his meds for a while which flipped on his crazy switch and all hell broke loose. You can't try to make sense out of such things. And most of all, you can't try to relate such crazy events to broader social problems that you referred to, like disagreemtns, wars, and such.

  • And yo, you gotta watch Fight Club man, if you haven't already. That shit was a trip. It's directed by the same guy who did Zodiac. Didn't fully understand the ending tho. Like how da fuck did the alter ego die but the actual guy live? Lemme know if you figure it out

  • it obviously doesnt make sense to you or me, cuz we're not him. but he had a brain which thinks and has its own logic. just cuz he takes medication to artificially suppress his original personality doesnt mean it didnt make sense to him, our society makes him take medication to be more like the rest of us probably.

which is just all.. relativity. if in his mind, his life is not worth living.. and applies that to other's lives.. he wouldnt care about killing others.

and if you dont want me to compare this to other bigger things.. with more casualties.. that's fine. but i was saying, people applying their standards/values.. is a root of a lot of problems.. big and small.

did you watch eternal sunshine of the spotless mind? great directing. i watched a lil bit of fight club.

  • Yea I saw dat movie. Been a while tho so don't remember much except it was pretty out there. It's a bit hard to take a movie seriously though when  Jim Carey's in it, no matter how good the movie actually is. Tis the downside of being a comedian I guess.

  • ur pic is reallly really small..

  • It's cuz I've elusive baby. You think you got me down pat, next thing you know, I got you all BEFUDDLED.

    HAHAHAHAHAH shit i'm goin bonkers

  • it's cuz it's a lunar eclipse tonight.

when you givin my book back.
