mentoring.
training for mentoring involved some blatant contradictions.
ie.
-honesty is IMPORTANT. but, lie at these times...
-be personal. but, don't get personal.funny thing is.. i understand why they exist.
i understand that i wont know until i face these issues that bring up such contradictions.i'm very excited to meet my mentee.
she will be from brooklyn or staten island.
both of which are pretty far from where i am..i'm trying to remember how i was back in high school. remember what i thought of 26 year olds..
remember the things i'd never dare say to adults... remember what advice i could have used looking back..here is a toast to the start!

just be a good listener, and try to be as encouraging as possible. it's a scientific fact that kids who do better in life hear a higher percentage of encouraging comments from adults than those that do not. and most importantly, don't talk to them like a kid. they are more adult and grown-up than you think. treat them as a peer, not as a subordinate. stick to that and you'll do fine.
@davidngo - :) thanks david. ironically, i think one of my problems will be trying not to be too much of a friend. i forget that i am 26 at times. i am all ready to listen away and provide good feedback. wOooOoOhoOooO~~~
You? A mentor? uH - OH. But keep us updated on the progress. Will be interesting
Wow, that's impressive.
I think my problem doing something like that is that deep inside, I'm less mature than a lot of high school kids.
